The River Quaggy

The name of this river, one of the local tributaries that flows into the Thames, fascinates me, it is so evocative and onomatopoeiac. It immediately conjures up visions of mud, marshland, bogs, rushes, will o’ the wisp, reeds, silt and ooziness in general. I want to find out where the name comes from and if it means anything.
