A Rural Idyll: Text

The outlines of the Priory appeared one hot summer and were drawn by John French.  Here is the plan and his accompanying text.

“This most interesting development was first noticed by John Barford of East End, East Bergholt on the 3rd August 1990 – who informed me.  Subsequently, I surveyed the site with the assistance of John Willis of Dodnash – the findings of the survey are shown here.

The explanation of this quite unique appearance of the foundations through the sared grass is probably accounted for by the drought conditions over the past few years – in particular the very low rain rainfall all this summer has dried this normally marshy valley out – unless we have entered a cycle of very dry seasons it could be a very long time before these conditions occur again – it would therefore seem important that qualified people should be consulted to interpret this unique manifestation and probably  for the first time be able to broaden considerably our knowledge of the priory.
